ART TO SIMPLY MAKE YOU SMILE
My Background
Hello, my name is Simone Wolowiec.
Here’s some background to my love of art…and the vintage art prints Australia I sell, covering: retro prints, Art Deco posters, vintage wall art, comic pop art, retro travel posters and more.
My artistic philosophy is to create ‘Art To Simply Make You Smile.’ I see my art as having a very important role in life, to make people smile. Smiling is a very powerful emotional statement and I think it’s a universal language. It doesn’t matter what verbal language we speak, a smile is a clear way to communicate across all languages. A smile is also contagious; you see someone smile, you smile back and make a connection without saying a word. To create art that has the power to positively change someone’s state of mind is empowering. The desire to impact someone’s life positively through my art drives me to keep creating.
Passion for art began for me after retiring as a professional athlete in 2006. I hadn’t picked up a paintbrush since I was a kid, but excitement and a curiosity for transforming a blank canvas into an imaginative scene led me to take art classes in my home city of Melbourne, Australia.
The transition process from being an athlete to becoming an artist has a definite attitude correlation. You need to absolutely have a passion for what you are doing, your heart has to be committed 100 percent in order to get the results you want. To produce a body of creative work that you are proud of, and ready to share is a process, and being self-motivated, disciplined and committed is a necessity in order to keep progressing, mastering and evolving as an artist. Much like being an athlete, you are always striving to better yourself and reap the rewards of your efforts.
My artistic style is a reflection of who I am. I aspire to one day thrive in chaos…perhaps just one day which may turn into more, we’ll see! But for now my art is very much painted within the lines, a reflection of how I like to tackle life projects – with precision! On another spectrum, my art is colourful and fun which really reflects my light-hearted attitude towards life in general.
My art topics are inspired by my life experiences! Whether it be from a conversation, or an observation, I get so much enjoyment capturing life’s moments through art! Travelling is a passion of mine, I love taking in the history of a place, seeing iconic architecture, the people, the scenes created by either a standout moment in time or simply by the location setting. I don’t just mean locally around town, but also when I go to inspirational places like Melbourne, the Sunshine Coast and further afield to places like California etc. By doing this, it really brings the artwork process home to me and allows me to create an early depiction in my mind of what piece I’m going to work on next. Sometimes, the scene or setting will even give me a good idea of which medium I will use to create my work, such as the vintage art prints Australia.
Creating my first art series the ‘Melbourne Poster Series’ and celebrating the artwork with my first Australian art exhibition ‘Inspired By Melbourne’ really made me very proud to be a Melburnian. Art has the power to influences human emotions, and this series was very personal to me. It brought back many fond memories of growing up in the city. To reconnect with Melbourne for the first time from an artistic perspective has been empowering for me as an artist. Melbourne inspired the series and now has given me the opportunity to launch my full-time art career within Australia.
